our photographers

We are glad to be getting some good results from the latest Epson printer for our photographers recently.  Maggie Studholme continues to astound her many fans here with her views of Pembrokeshire, her photographic prints are a best-seller here.  It is quite extraordinary really what Maggie sees and finds with her trusty camera.  She pushes photography from a skill into its true art form with subject matter, compositions and colours.  Many of her photographs appear quite abstract, a close-up of encrusted rocks could almost be an aerial photograph of a vast landscape.  I think one reason her work is so popular is that it is often not obvious at first glance what is seen, it takes some time to realise her photographs.  Her work, like that of other artists at Rookwood, offers a celebration of this wonderful part of the world.  Maggie deserves full recognition for her work and we are lucky to show it to you.

Another photographer who is producing astounding results with his camera is Andy Holcroft.  As if Andy is not doing enough already helping run the nature restoration with Dr Sarah Beynon at the Bug Farm (and also here at Llanunwas), being a gourmet chef of exoskeletal stuff at Grub Kitchen, and running huge distances around the Pembrokeshire coastline, Andy often has his camera with him and finds time to capture stunning images.  Much of his work is landscape photography but Andy is also pushing the new camera technologies to their maximum with his macro photography of bugs!  This early morning capture of an Emerald Damselfly was made up from scores of images using focus stacking, and it glistens with dew drops and looks stunning printed large on photo satin paper.

Still a favourite of mine is this beautiful Iberian Magpie photographed by Amanda Squire on our visit to Caceres in Spain.
