On this St David’s Day 1 March we would like to remember a very special friend and very talented artist who entrusted her work with us, Sara Crisp
Sara Crisp is renowned for her beautiful icon paintings in St David’s Cathedral which have been the subject of a book, and celebrated by so many visitors to the cathedral. These can be considered high art and may be enjoyed by many generations to come. Sara created these works of art using a medieval style and technique known as egg tempera on gesso panels with gold leaf water gilding. She loved historical and also wildlife subjects.
The new Dean at St Davids Cathedral the very Revd Dr Sarah Rowland Jones, on meeting King Charles, introduced herself in her role at the cathedral and the Prince as he was then replied “Ah yes those wonderful icons”. The thing he remembered most from his earlier visit to St David’s Cathedral were Sara’s beautiful ornamental paintings that will adorn this sacred place for perhaps another thousand years of its future history.
We miss her a lot. Her partner, Jam Crisp a highly talented musician and teacher, is directing proceeds from sales of Sara’s work to preserving her work into the future.
we have two beautiful prints by Sara: Little Egret on gold leaf above, and Dove..
